Code for Sustainable Homes

The Code for Sustainable Homes provides a comprehensive measure of the sustainability of new dwellings, and the result of the assessment leads to the award of a star rating representing the environmental performance of the home, as shown in the following table:

Code Level Percentage reduction in CO2 emissions per M2 (compared with Building Regulations Requirements)
Level 1 * 10%
Level 2 ** 18%
Level 3 *** 25%
Level 4 **** 44%
Level 5 ***** 100%
Level 6 ****** Zero Carbon Home

To achieve the highest possible rating at the lowest capital cost, the BRE (Building Research Establishment) recommends high degrees of involvement by an assessor from the earliest design stage. Consequently, we have tailored our Code for Sustainable Homes service to offer the best chance of achieving your goals, and can offer the following:

• Code Pre-Assessment and Pre-Planning Sustainability Report
• Pre-certification advice on achieving a specific Star Level
• Day-lighting Calculations and advice on achieving Day-lighting credits
• Advice on integrating best practice, cost-effective solutions into the design
• Code Final Assessment and Certification

Working with hydrological engineers, structural engineers, ecological consultants and NHER-certified SAP assessors, we at Ty Afal have the capacity and experience to develop your design to meet a particular code level.
