Re-design an existing house and convert an attached barn that will provide open-plan living accommodation suitable for a family home and business, and that will make use of passive solar gains and provide opportunity to showcase sedum green roofs.

The proposal is adapt a traditional Welsh farmhouse and to convert a long barn, making it an extension to the existing living space.

The concept aims to improve the existing 1960’s flat roof extensions to the original farmhouse and bring a new life to the home that will be light and spacious and energy efficient. The design will enhance the small family business, of growing and selling Sedum plants for green roofs. A curved green roof will be seen from the meadow above the house and will showcase the lovely colours and textures of variety of sedum plants.

The objective of adapting the farmhouse is to improve the visual impact of the existing house, to create lighter internal spaces, and to provide opportunities for passive solar gain. The proposal is to use glass and wood to create a distinct contrast with the original stone of the attached long barn.
