Ty Afal designed this super energy-efficient home for PYC Construction. The house is designed to suit timber frame construction using a specialist system developed by PYC that achieves very high levels of airtightness and windtightness. PYC specialise in Warmcel insulation and Pro Clima airtight tapes and membranes, combined with a double stud twin wall with 300mm of Warmcel this house is aiming to meet Passive House standards and Code 4/5.

Ty Coed has four bedrooms and open-plan ground floor living with an integral garage. The layout is orientated to optimise passive solar gains and natural ventilation. The principles behind the construction and design of the house was to create a family home with a healthy living environment that had an excellent level of energy efficiency. PYC Construction were presented with a LABC Building Control award for their energy efficient home in 2010.

The house incorporates a Mechanical Heat Recovery and Ventilation system, underfloor heating, solar panels for hot water, a 5KW wood-burning stove, high levels of airtightness, and minimal thermal bridging with high levels of of insulation. For details on PYC systems visit www.pycsystems.co.uk
