Matt’s House, Tregynon

Back

Design a spacious home with character that will meet Local Needs criteria and be affordable to build.

A compact yet spacious home to meet affordable housing criteria. The house is 120sq/m and is stepped into the hillside. It was designed as a self-build project for a local carpenter.

The design makes use of the slope, with a change in level between the dining area and living room and a central fireplace between the two spaces.

The Douglas fir cladding has been stained a dark colour to match the adjacent black corrugated Dutch farm buildings, typical to the area.

The layout makes clever use of the available sq/m for Local Needs criteria, primarily by reducing the circulation space, and maximising living space.
